Newry students win Inter-Campus Skillbuild competition

Three Newry students have won their respective competitions in Southern Regional College’s recent Inter-Campus Skillbuild Competition.

Newry student Gavin Rice won first prize in the Industrial Heating section

The Skillbuild competition is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for young students and apprentices. It covers crafts including carpentry, joinery, bricklaying and plastering. Gavin Rice won first prize in the Industrial Heating section, Steven Byrne won the Body Repair competition and Paul Mullan won first place in the CAD Skills competition. Gavin studies Plumbing in SRC’s Greenbank campus, Steven studies Body Repair at Portadown Campus while Paul is studying Engineering at Portadown Campus. The Inter-Campus competition, held at SRC’s Portadown Campus, was the first stage of the renowned Skillbuild Competition and drew together students from all campuses of SRC. Twenty-nine skills competitions took place on the day with industry experts judging the work and skills of the students.
