Curran expresses outrage at stolen bins

Sinn Féin councillor Brendan Curran is outraged that blue and black bins were stolen on the Warrenpoint road area, Newry on the early hours of Sunday morning past.

Speaking to Newry Times, Curran said,

“These bins were stolen and further, set alight. Those targeted were old aged pensioners and people with disabilities. The bins were burnt on open ground in the Toragh Park area.

“I am calling for this outrageous behaviour to stop. It can cost anything up to £80 to replace bins. I will be raising this issue with the council; these residents should be eligible to get their bins replaced because they were burnt in an act of vandalism.”

He added; “I would encourage people to lock and chain their bins coming into the darker evenings to prevent them from being stolen. This seems to be the time of year when these vandals operate as has been shown in previous attacks in Old Damolly Village.”
