SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has spoken warmly of the links being fostered between West Georgia Technical College in the US and the Southern Regional College in Newry and Mourne. Representatives of West Georgia Tech came to Stormont this week to discuss details of the arrangement, which will see six months of shared teaching and assessment – via web-conferencing – ahead of a visit to NI by students from Georgia next April to look at tourism. Mrs McKevitt, who is the party’s Culture, Arts and Leisure spokesperson, said: “I am delighted that students from USA will have the opportunity to visit and experience all that the North of Ireland has to offer. “The exchange will coincide with Derry City of Culture 2013 so it is a great time to visit, I have also proposed that the students come to my own constituency of South Down to see and walk the Mountains of Mournes. I want the students to return to the USA telling all their friends and family that South Down is a “must see.”
