Summer workshops at the museum a ‘great success’

The Museum hosted historically themed arts and craft workshops for children over four days last week.

Parents left their children with the Museum staff who were at hand to help the children create unique pieces of art inspired by the rich heritage of Newry and Mourne on display in the galleries of the Museum.

The children who took part created items such as 16th century wall hangings, pieces of pottery, even their own towers, taking inspiration from the castles in the area, including Greencastle, Moyry and of course, Bagenal’s Castle.

Commenting on the week’s activities Noreen Cunningham, Museum Curator, said, “This week was a great success as it was the first summer workshops we have ever held. The children really enjoyed themselves.”
