Barcroft and Ballybot community notes

Summer Festival Ends: Following two weeks of activities, day trips and cultural exchanges the Annual Barcroft Community Festival finished last Thursday night with a Disco, Fancy Dress and Barbeque. The music was supplied by the master of spin; Paudy Harte. There was a great turn out for the closing event and a number of committee members made the effort along with the European Volunteers and dressed up for the occasion. The international volunteers were given a rousing send off last Friday night by the community association to thank them for all their assistance.

Barcroft Community Association would like to thank its committee members and youth club volunteers, the international volunteers, Voluntary Services International in Dublin, Newry & Mourne District Council, particularly the caretaker Barry Duffy, Kathleen Magee & Dermot Russell; Children in Need, SELB Youth Service & ‘NAMES’ Project, especially Philomena Kavanagh, Noreen Rice DSD Chairperson, Newry & Mourne Enterprise Agency, Corrinshego GFC; Belfast Community Circus, ‘NI at Play’, Raymie Thompson, Pádraig Harte; The Mayor John McArdle, Councillor Valerie Harte, Mickey Brady MLA, local media; and everyone else who helped out during the summer programme.

Jacket Found: A local resident found a ladies jacket last Tuesday night on Doran’s Hill. If you are the owner of the coat please get in touch with community association 028 30267803 (please leave a message) or by email: barcroftcommunityassociation@hotmail.co.uk

Youth Programme Closed: Barcroft Youth Club will be closed until the Tuesday 11th September. The annual summer closure is used to prepare for the autumn/ winter programme. The youth club volunteers are in the process of reviewing the summer scheme and following discussions with young people and parents the slots allocated for youth provision are being revised. One suggestion which looks plausible is a Saturday Club aimed at the four to seven year age group.

This proposal would involve parents as well as youth club personnel and activities would include arts and crafts, storytelling, physical exercise, etc. The community association has received various requests for room hire, therefore a youth club night is likely to fall on a Wednesday.

Bookings: Barcroft Community Association has received various requests to hire the community centre. The association is responsible for managing the bookings and they are keen to bring in organisations and individuals who can benefit local residents. All enquiries about bookings should be made by email: barcroftcommunityassociation@hotmail.co.uk or by phone 028 30267803 (please leave a message).

Graduation: Congratulations to Paul Kavanagh who recently graduated with a Bsc Degree in Geology from Cardiff University. Best wishes from all the family.
