Local Assembly member Chris Hazzard has welcomed news that Roads Service officials will carry out improvements works at Hilltown Road, Cabra. Hazzard visited the site following requests from homeowners and Kilcoo Sinn Féin activist Brian Morgan. Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard commented, “Local people were concerned that continued bad weather had left the road in a dangerous condition. Water from the recent rain storms was lying for a considerable period, unable to soak away. This was resulting in traffic difficulties and I was very concerned to hear that it led to a number of accidents on the road.” “I contacted Roads Service calling for urgent remedial work to be carried out, ensuring that further bad weather bouts won’t have the same terrible consequences in the future. I am aware that Roads officials have since cleared out gullies at the site and plan for further road improvements in the coming months.” He added, “I am indebted to Roads Service staff in Newry who acted promptly on request and have made the area a safer one to travel along.”
