SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt said she is concerned by a spate of recent burglaries in the Old Warrenpoint Road and adjoining areas of Newry. Speaking to Newry Times she said: “Apart from the loss of what is taken by thieves, it can be deeply upsetting and even traumatic for people who find that the privacy of their home has been violated. These are generally creeper-type burglaries rather than opportunistic break-ins.” McKevitt added, “Obviously people need to be conscious of the proper security of their homes and the police will be doing all they can to prevent this sort of crime and catch those responsible where it happens. But the only real solution is for us all to watch out for each other and to co-operate closely with the PSNI to make life uncomfortable and ultimately impossible for all those who fancy an easy living stealing from others.”
