Police in Newry dragged a woman to safety from Newry Canal in the early hours of yesterday morning after they received a report of a female in the water at 4.48am.

PSNI officers attended the scene immediately and attempted to pull the female from the water. One officer then entered the canal and pulled the lady to the bank with the assistance from another officer and a member of the public.

Police worked to rouse the female who was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
