Southern Trust films Daisy Hill maternity facilities to help pregnant women

A new short film aimed at pregnant women in antenatal classes was filmed in Daisy Hill Hospital recently. The film, filmed in the hospital’s Maternity Department, will replace tours of the same area. The 10 minute film shows viewers the maternity facilities and highlights what pregnant women can expect when they arrive at the hospital.

The tour covers the Admission and Assessment Unit, as well as the Birthing Pool Room in the Delivery Suite and the Postnatal Ward, which facilitates the birth of approximately two thousand babies each year.

Southern Trust Assistant Director of Acute Services, Anne McVey, spoke of the film, “Before we had this film, pregnant women came on group tours of the hospital maternity department organised as part of the Antenatal Education programme. However, bringing large groups of people on tours was becoming more challenging in our busy Departments as we have to protect the dignity and privacy of the women who are about to give birth here.”

She continued, “Infection prevention is also a key priority for the Trust and the new film will reduce the risk of infection associated with large groups of people in one location. We are delighted to introduce this virtual alternative to our maternity tour and hope that pregnant women find it useful and interesting.”

The film is available on the Southern Trust website and can be viewed at http://www.southerntrust.hscni.net/services/1785.htm
