Mayor of Newry and Mourne Charlie Casey joined representatives and events organisers at The Ring of Gullion this month in welcoming families to the Mountain of Magic – Myths and Legends day out. The day out, organised by Council as part of the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Management Plan, aims to encourage enjoyment of the area. Events organizer Sharon Carroll entertained children with myths, nature and legends from the Ring of Gullion, ensuring the event would not be forgotten. Mayor Charlie Casey said, “It’s a great way to get the kids and their families out into the Ring of Gullion and learn about the history too. As always, Sharon brought the Tain story to life. ” Darren Rice of Newry and Mourne Council said, “The Ring of Gullion is bursting at the seams with stories of its past and it was great to hear about how Cú Chulainn and fought Queen Méabh’s armies in the hills around the Ring of Gullion.” For more information on what’s on, attractions and places to eat and stay in the Ring of Gullion and South Armagh visit:, search for Ring of Gullion on Facebook and Twitter or visit
