Irwin condemns hoax bomb

Newry and Armagh DUP Assemblyman Cllr. William Irwin MLA has condemned those responsible for leaving a hoax bomb close to the Navan Fort visitors centre on the outskirts of Armagh City. The device on the Killylea Road was declared an elaborate hoax following investigation by army technical officers yesterday.

Speaking to Newry Times, Irwin said, “This was a highly irresponsible act by whoever left this hoax device given the disruption that has been caused. The Army Technical Officers have to take extreme care when investigating these incidents and thankfully no one was at risk on this occasion, however it has caused great inconvenience for residents close by and our Council operated Navan Fort visitors centre had to close its doors for the day on what would have been ordinarily, a busy bank holiday.”
