Newry & Armagh MLA to run for UUP leadership

Bessbrook born Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy is set to stand for the Ulster Unionist Party leadership.

According to the BBC, sources close to Mr Kennedy say he has a “very clear majority support” within the UUP. The sources have also said that the Newry & Armagh MLA has a “substantial support from the party’s peers”, as well as the support from the party’s Member of the European Parliament Jim Nicholson.

Basil McCrea, John McCallister and Mike Nesbitt are also said to be in the running for the position. Nomination papers for the leadership election must be handed in this coming Friday, with the election itself taking place on the 31st March.
