Fundamentals coaching day held in Warrenpoint

Children from south Down and south Armagh have in the last week attended the Newry & Mourne Fundamentals coaching day at Warrenpoint’s 3G facility. The coaching sessions included coordination, balance and agility games with a football.

A fun and energetic environment was created for the children in school years primary 1 to 4 by coaches Heather McCracken, Dominic Towomy and Gareth Allen. Several club coaches were also in attendance at the event and also took part in the new Games Development Centre held at Newry City FC on Saturday. The club coaches were shown examples of skill drills and small sided games to include in their own coaching sessions.

Damolly United’s Kenny Halliday said, “This is where it all starts for me, giving children the best experience of fun and football so they can explore how their body works and practice simple but effective exercises with a ball.”

The Newry & Mourne Council commented by saying, “Our thanks goes to those players and parents who attended the Fundamentals day and also our gratitude to Sarah McDonald for the hard work done in promoting this event locally. In addition thank you to Warrenpoint Town FC and the board for the use of the Club and its facilities, as usual of the highest order and hospitality.”
