Father of Turkey murders accused is arrested

The father of Recep Cetin, the man accused of murdering two County Down women, has been arrested by police in Turkey. Eyup Cetin was taken into custody last night following his son’s hearing in Izmir.

Recep Cetin is accused of murdering Marion Graham and Kathy Dinsmore in August this year. The women, from Newry and Warrenpoint, were found stabbed to death in woodland approximately 60 miles from their Kusadasi holiday apartment.

Baris Kaska, the lawyer who represents the victims’ families said, “They did the murder together in my opinion. I asked the prosecutors in the adult court on Thursday to arrest him because this crime was committed together, jointly, not solely by Recep Cetin, so it is very big news.”

Following the hearing yesterday, Mr Cetin will be required to take a bone marrow test to prove his age after he claimed to be just 17 years old. If the test shows the accused to be over 18, he will be tried and sentenced in an adult court. The next hearing will be in February.
