Harte welcomes Monkshill Cemetery redevelopment
Sinn Féin Newry councillor Valerie Harte has welcomed news that the commencement of the second phase of work at Monkshill Cemetery will begin at the end of April. “This is a major development which will be of great service to the people of Newry” councillor Harte said, “It is hoped that this work will begin towards the end of April and should be completed by October.”
Harte continued, “The value of the contract awarded is in the region of £140,000 and includes all landscaping, pathways and additional car parking. There will also be better access for hearses which will make turning easier. In addition, new drainage schemes will be put in place and it is hoped that work will later commence on the Chapel of Ease at Monkshill.”
Councillor Harte also paid tribute to Newry and Mourne Council for undertaking this essential work; “I think council must be commended for undertaking this major redevelopment at Monkshill Cemetery which I know will be appreciated by the people of Newry for many years to come.”
