High insurance premiums impacting workers and families in Newry and Armagh – Dáire Hughes MP | Newry News
Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes has slammed the ever-increasing cost of home and motor insurance for residents of the BT34 and BT35 areas.
Dáire Hughes comments, “My office has been inundated with people reporting massive increases to the cost of their car and home insurance policies.
“Home insurance costs in particular have drastically risen, with many providers stating the increase is due to apparent flood risk following last year’s flooding.
“People in BT34 and BT35 are having to pay high insurance premiums as a result, even when there is no history of flooding while grappling with the ongoing cost of living crisis.
“The powers relating to insurance sit with the British government.
“I have also written to the relevant minister.
“I have also been in contact with the Competition and Markets Authority and more recently with the Financial Conduct Authority to raise these specific issues.
“I will continue to press the British government to ensure people here receive a fair insurance price,” he adds.
