Mulkerns Maxol in Newry is celebrating after securing a double win at the annual Maxol Excellence Awards hosted at a ceremony in Madrid recently.

The award-winning service station received two awards at the ceremony: the coveted Store of the Year Award for their consistency as a top performer across all categories and Excellence in Community Engagement for their support towards the local community.

The Awards, promote excellence in station and store standards, customer experience and community engagement in Maxol’s network of service stations across the island of Ireland.

They are assessed and judged through regular and rigorous store audits, mystery shopper visits and reviews of each store’s local community engagement and they honour the very best Maxol Licensees, Independent Dealers and their staff who create a great customer experience.

Mulkerns Maxol consistently achieves top-performing scores across all judged categories and works tirelessly throughout the year to offer support and help where they can in their local community.  

They support five local Primary Schools and contact them each year to understand how they can best channel their support in areas such as Sports Days where they offer refreshments and medals.

Mulkerns Maxol are top-tier sponsors for two local Football Clubs, Dromintee GAC and Killeavy GAC and they sponsor jerseys for Newry rugby club, as well as supporting fundraising events such as the GAA Clubs Big Breakfast, where their chefs cook the breakfasts to help raise funds. 

They interact with schools, clubs and community groups on their social media channels, sharing their events and celebrating their successes.

 



 

The team holds weekly in-store ’Sampling Saturdays’, which supports local suppliers and creates theatre and a welcoming atmosphere in-store.

For more than ten years, they have hosted an annual Community Christmas Party which is free and open to all local families, where children can meet Santa in his grotto, receive a gift and enjoy balloon modelling, face painting, festive food and drinks.  

The team, led by Terry Mulkerns has a Food Bank in-store for their local homeless charity, ’Newry Helping the Homeless’ and they host a recycling facility where charities can collect clothes and goods for recycling.

The business employs staff from within their community by holding Speedy Hire events in-store to make it convenient for local people to apply.

Once they become a member of the team, the store celebrates their staff on their social media channels with happy birthday posts and more.
