Fireworks placed in Newry letterboxes “needs to stop” – Newry City Councillor
Councillor Roisin Mulgrew has said that reports of fireworks being placed in the letterboxes of Newry homes was a great cause of concern and she has appealed for the activities to cease.
The Sinn Féin Councillor said she was contacted by “a number of distressed residents”.
She said the Chanellors Road, Newry residents voiced their concerns to her.
According to the local councillor, several homeowners have had lit fireworks placed in their letterboxes.
These, she said, then exploded in their homes.
“This has clearly been a frightening experience for residents especially those who live alone or who are vulnerable,” she told Newry Times.
The local councillor continued, “I have also been informed that these youths have gained access to a communal area within local apartments.”
Councillor Mulgrew says the youths also carried out similar anti-social behaviour acts at the apartments.
“All this is deeply concerning and I would urge all those involved to stop,” she continued.
“I would also appeal directly to parents.
“Please be aware of your children’s activities.
“These activities are not harmless fun, they are incredibly dangerous for those involved.
“They cause huge fear and distress to the victims,” Councillor Mulgrew added.
