The local charities aim to bring about some fun whilst many social events and daily routines have been impacted by the recent restrictions.

The challenge consists of supporters videoing themselves dancing to ‘Spooky Scary Skeleton’, the 15-second dance challenge taking TikTok by storm.

Supporters, then uploading it to their social media channels and nominating/tagging friends, family, clubs, sports clubs to take part and donate £5.00 to help these local charities who need our support now more than ever.

BIF’s Fundraising Officer, Daryll Galloghly said, “This is a fun and fantastic way for people within the Newry area and beyond to get involved with supporting these two fantastic charities.

“The Brain Injury Foundation provides support to Brain Injury Survivors and their careers within the SHSCT area.”

Speaking on the impact the pandemic has had on charities, Daryll added, “The Covid situation has been very challenging for many small charities, and many fundraising events were cancelled.

“This collaboration with PIPS is an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of the fantastic services both our charities provide.

He added, “This challenge is so much fun, and I can’t wait to see everyone’s dance moves!”

Also commenting on this inventive initiative, PIPS Hope and Support’s Fundraising Co-Ordinator Padraig Harte said, “PIPS Hope and Support have been working alongside BIF to bring about this fantastic initiative.

“We hope our community will get behind by joining in, having fun and helping us to raise fundamental funds for the services both charities deliver across the geographical area.”

Padraig continued, “Since Covid-19 hit us back in March, most of our fundraising events have been cancelled leaving restraints on fundraising for the year.

“Our community has been supportive of our services and we want to thank you all for that.

“We would love to have as many individuals and their families, friends and clubs take part and assist us in raising vital funds.

“Already our office has seen a 30% increase in demand on weekly referrals for crisis response and we need the financial support for as little as £5.00 to allow us to continue delivering critical services to those who need us most.”
