Anger after Newry children’s arts facility break-in

Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady has condemned the break-in at the popular Sticky Fingers Arts Imaginarium In Edward Street, Newry.

The local MP has appealed for vigilance within communities as fears rise about a growing trend of break-ins and robberies within the city.

Speaking to Newry Times, Brady said, “Grainne and her team at Sticky Fingers have helped revitalise the Arts in our area and brought huge enjoyment and learning both to young and old.

 

 

“I am angered at the disappointing news that the Imaginarium and Art Cafe were broken into and have had to close today.

“Hopefully they will be back up and running tomorrow,” he continued.

 

 

Urging vigilance, the MP said, “There are fears about what seems to be a growing trend of thefts and break-ins within our City.

“The Police must focus resources on protecting people and property and apprehending these criminals who prey on our businesses and communities.

“I would also appeal for people to be extra vigilant and watch out for suspicious activity,” he added.

 

 

Writing on their Facebook page, Sticky Fingers wrote, “It is with great disappointment that the Imaginarium and art cafe are closed today due to a break-in last night.

“We are currently working with the PSNI to assess the loss and damage to our wonderful centre.

The post added, “We hope to reopen tomorrow as normal and apologise for any inconvenience caused today.”
