Delight at ‘Home to Hospital’ proposal
Sinn Féin Councillor Barra Ó Muirí has spoken of his delight at proposing a new Home to Hospital Scheme for Slieve Gullion DEA.
The proposal was that the Council would agree to spend £10,000 a year, while seeking support from outside agencies, to provide much-needed support for rural communities in attending Hospital appointments.

Ó Muirí explained to the Active and Health Communities Committee how this issue had been discussed at length by Slieve Gullion Councillors for years.
“The communities that we represent are among the most rural across the entire district,” he stated.
“There are villages with poor phone signal, little or no wi-fi, and infrequent bus services.
“It is incumbent upon this council to cater for and care for all residents, particularly those at risk of rural isolation.”
The Sinn Féin representative praised the sterling work of the First Responders and spoke with pride of the new Responders being launched in Newtownhamilton next month.
“The First Responders was established several years ago to address the issue of Ambulance times to South Armagh.
“Sometimes it takes an hour for an ambulance to arrive if it’s coming from Craigavon.”
The Councillor added, “The Home to Hospital Scheme will give the people of South Armagh a much-needed resource to get them to hospital appointments.
“The information on how the contact the scheme will be available in the coming weeks.”
