This is sure to be a memorable event for all ages, whilst raising funds for a great cause in PIPS Hope and Support. PIPS Hope and Support (formerly Newry and Mourne) are a charity which provides a vital service to individuals, families and communities in the Southern Region Area on all issues relating to suicide, mental and emotional well-being and trauma.

PIPS also provide educational programmes to people on how they can help reduce the risk of suicide in our greater community.

Warrenpoint GAA and Warrenpoint Town FC will work in conjunction with PIPS Hope and Support to bring the Colour Run to Warrenpoint for individuals of all ages, all united by a common cause to raise money for this fantastic local Charity.

Warrenpoint GAA PRO Aislíng McGivern said, “We were only too happy to become involved in this event. Addressing mental health in sport is forefront of our organisation, particularly with the growing number of youth players.

“It is so important for individuals to recognise that mental illness is real, but most importantly mental illness is a treatable illness from which people can recover.

“We recognise in our community, ‘self-help’ is so important and in our job as sports educators at the forefront of the community we must promote and encourage an environment which promotes self-help and guidance. We encourage all our runners to go out, have fun and talk,” she added.

Warrenpoint Town FC Club Secretary, Jack Gilsenan stated, “We are delighted to be supporting such an amazing cause that is PIPS Hope and Support with their Colour Run alongside our friends at Warrenpoint GAA.

“Mental health is a common issue in the community and with sports people young and old, and we feel this is a great opportunity to highlight that help is readily available whenever it is needed. This Saturday promises to be a fantastic community day and hopefully as many people as possible come out and support the event.”

PIPS Hope and Support Fundraising Assistant, Patrick Mageean, said, “Mental Health is a major issue in sport and we hope that by bringing this event to Warrenpoint and working along with the local clubs we will highlight to those involved and in the wider community that help is available and that our service is open to those who need it.

He added, “We hope to see a big and colourful turnout come Saturday.”
