Men carrying hatchets try to rob Newry shop
Police in Newry are appealing for information following the report of an attempted robbery at a shop on the Killeavy Road yesterday, Wednesday, 26 September.
Speaking to Newry Times, Detective Sergeant Bell said, “It was reported that around 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, two males, one carrying a hatchet, entered the premises and demanded money.
“No money was handed over and the pair left the scene and were last seen heading in the direction of Derrybeg Drive.
“There were no reports of any injuries following the incident.”
One male is described as being approximately 6’, of slim build, short brown hair and wearing black bottoms and a green raincoat.
The other male is described as being around 5’8’’ tall, medium build with short, dark hair and wearing dark trousers and a black/navy raincoat.
Sergeant Bell added, “I am appealing for anyone with information or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Ardmore Police Station on 101 quoting 950 of 26/9/18.
“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
