‘Economic stagnation is the legacy of DUP failures’ – Murphy
Economic stagnation is the legacy of DUP failures in government, Sinn Féin MLA Conor Murphy has said.
The party’s economy spokesperson was responding to the latest Composite Economic Index statistics that show a 1 per cent fall in the North’s economic output in the last year.
“The DUP controlled the main economic department from 2007 until 2017,” he said.
“During that decade they failed to address the fundamental difficulties of low productivity and a low employment rate.
“Instead they focused on PR, selectively citing statistics to portray the economy as a roaring success.
“Their economic legacy includes the RHI scandal, the lowest rate of growth on these islands, and the catastrophic threat of Brexit.
Murphy added, “After the DUP’s decade of economic failure there needs to be a major improvement in economic policy when the Executive is restored.”
