‘Shining Light’ Awards 2018 award nominations announced
The Confederation of Community Groups (CCG) has announced details of the nominations received for the Community Volunteering Awards of 2018.
The ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards were established by the Confederation in memory of their esteemed colleague Patricia Graham, and this year marks the 10th Year of the Awards.
The Awards ceremony which will take place in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry on Friday 8th June is the keynote event in the community/ voluntary calendar for the area.
Speaking before a meeting of this year’s Independent Adjudication Panel the CCG’s CEO Raymond Jackson paid tribute to the voluntary work carried out by the multitude of local groups throughout the past year.
“Once again we are humbled by the calibre and depth of nominations for our Community Volunteering Awards” said Raymond.
“This year’s nominations reflect a commitment and dedication to community life in this area that we are proud to acknowledge and celebrate. We are particularly indebted to our panel of adjudicators who give of their time to consider the significant number of nominations we have received.
“On behalf of the CCG’ s voluntary board I would like to once again to emphasise that the ‘Shining Light’ Community Volunteering Awards are established, not as a competition among groups but as a means to recognise and promote the incredible work of the community and voluntary sector in this area.
He added, “Without such commitment civic life in this area would simply not function.”
