Recently, The Newry Times caught up with the Newry City Wanderers skipper Jake Redpath, who has enjoyed a leading role in the side’s defence since joining this season.

Position: Right back
Previous clubs: Banbridge Town, Hillsborough Boys and Seapatrick.
Greatest achievement so far in your career?
Winning the Ayr Tournament in Scotland with Banbridge Town.
Who would you consider the best player you have played against?
Josh Barton when he played for Lurgan town, he now plays for Aston Villa.
Best ground you have played in?
Windsor Park
Do you support any English clubs?
Tottenham
What club would you like to play for in the future?
Obviously Newry City in the Irish League. Then who knows?
What is one thing that you enjoy while playing football?
There’s no better feeling than winning.
What inspires you to play football?
To keep improving and play at the highest level I can.
What brought you to play for Newry?
When I played for Banbridge Town my manager there was Ryan McConville, he then gave me the great opportunity to play for Newry.
Who is the biggest joker in the team?
Even though he hasn’t been with the team long it has to be Lenny (Conor Lenaghan).
Who is the best trainer at the club?
Without doubt Jordy King.
And finally…What’s your favourite thing about playing for Newry?
It’s the players, some I knew coming into Newry and some I didn’t, but we’ve all bonded well and it’s a joy to play with them.
