A member of the Community Dental Service team, working across Kilkeel, Rathfriland, Daisy Hill Hospital and John Mitchel Place Clinic, Newry, Christine has worked for the Trust for over 30 years.

Fields of Life is committed to bringing positive change through the provision of quality education, clean water, health promotion and other community based projects throughout East Africa.

Christine didn’t hesitate when invited at very short notice to travel to Uganda with a group of volunteers. She spent two weeks providing care and preventive advice to a wide range of local people.

Speaking about her experience, Christine said, “I had an amazing time in Uganda. The medical officer was absolutely thrilled with the dental equipment I brought and I had the opportunity to teach him some new skills which he has already put to use by extracting decayed painful teeth.

“I held daily oral health classes with teenagers which was great fun under a tree and was able to leave some cash for kidney dishes and a drum for sterilizing dental instruments exclusively,” Christine adds.

Michele Oliver, Clinical Director of the Community Dental Service praised Christine for her generosity. “All of her colleagues greatly admire Christine for her selflessness in agreeing to change her plans at short notice to help the vulnerable people of Uganda and as the only dentist on the group to provide some much needed dental care.

“This was all done on her own expense and is very typical of Christine’s approach to life which all of her clients here in the Southern Trust know and value,” she added.
