Local community urged to respect Daisy Hill Hospital visiting arrangements

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust is appealing to people to respect its hospital visiting guidance.

Daisy Hill Trust Medical Director Dr Richard Wright spoke to Newry Times and said, “We do understand that friends and family want to see loved ones in hospital and that patients are greatly comforted by their visits.

“However, we appeal for people to respect our visiting arrangements and stick to the allocated time slots. Staff need time without disruption to provide important care and treatment and sick patients need plenty of time to rest and recuperate.

“We also remind people to follow the visiting guidance which is published on all ward doors. This is based on best practice in infection control and is in place to keep our vulnerable patients safe,” he insisted.

“Our staff work tirelessly to ensure that Southern Trust hospitals have some of the lowest levels of infection and they can be placed in a very difficult position having to remind visitors of the rules.

“So I would appeal to everyone, particularly as we move into the busy winter period when there are more bugs in the community, to please assist us in our continued drive against infection and in ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.”

Visiting Guidance includes:

• Wash hands/use the hand rub provided when entering and leaving wards.

• A maximum of two visitors to each patient at any time.

• Do not sit on the bed, touch wounds, drips or drains.

• Don’t bring unnecessary items, flowers or food into the hospital.

• Restrict children from visiting.

• Do not visit if you or someone in your household has symptoms of cold, flu, vomiting or diarrhoea.
