Ballynahinch Harvest and County Living Event back by popular demand

Following the success of last year, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is once again hosting the Ballynahinch Harvest and Country Living Event in Market Square, Ballynahinch on Saturday 19th September from 12noon to 4pm.

harvestThe event, set up to celebrate the pig, potato and pageantry, which the town was once popular for, will see Phil’s Farm trot into town giving children the chance to get up close and personal with their favourite animals.

Festival goers will be dancing in the streets from early afternoon as the event sounds off with the spectacular beating of the drums by Beat Carnival. There will be an incredible number of acts lined up for the fun packed afternoon with street performers, face painting, The Just Adam Band, art cart, food village and much more.

Back by popular demand, The Great Ballynahinch Bake Off will see baking enthusiasts get their rolling pins out and compete for the best apple tart and scones in town. First Prize in each category is £40, Second £20 and Third Prize £10. Registration forms are available from Newcastle Visitor Information Centre on 028 4372 2222.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Naomi Bailie commented, “Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is delighted to implement free events for families to enjoy. I would encourage local businesses to get involved and dress up their shop windows in line with the harvest and country living theme.

She added, “Last year the town looked fantastic and it will be great if more businesses hay up and make sure the town is looking amazing for this event.”
