McKevitt welcomes council defibrillator progress
SDLP South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has welcomed a decision by Newry, Mourne and Down Council to increase accessibility of defibrillators in council facilities across the area.
Speaking to Newry Times, she said, “I’m delighted that Newry, Mourne and Down Council have supported a proposal brought by my party colleagues Cllr Terry Andrews and Cllr Michael Carr to increase the number and accessibility of defibrillators across council facilities.
“We have experienced too many tragedies here which may have been prevented if easy access to life saving equipment like defibrillators was available. It’s also important that we raise awareness about the proper use of defibrillators and first aid techniques that can save lives.
McKevitt added, “This is an issue which I am particularly passionate about and I hope this development will increase safety across the area. I want to congratulate the council for taking this step and hope we see the installation of new equipment as soon as possible.”
