‘South Down ready to welcome the world for Irish Open’ – Ritchie
SDLP South Down MP Margaret Ritchie has said that the home of the Mournes is ready to welcome the world to enjoy a first class spectacle at the Irish Open.
She said, “The fringe events are now well underway as competitors and visitors begin to make the journey to scenic South Down for the Irish Open.
“When they arrive, they’ll be greeted by stunning scenery and the warmest of welcomes from local people. This is another opportunity for us to showcase our tourism product to a global audience,” she insisted.
“Television deals for the Irish Open will broadcast the event to hundreds of millions of viewers across the world. The eyes of potential investors will fall on Newcastle, on the Mournes and on our beautiful coastal communities this week. It’s important that we make the most of it.
“And for those lucky enough to be visiting Royal County Down for the tournament, they’ll be able to benefit from the ability to go beyond the ropes. That means they’ll be able to come and go from the grounds as they please to sample the excellent products available throughout the town and throughout the constituency.
Ritchie added, “We have undertaken a significant amount of work with the local chamber and businesses to ensure that the economic dividend of the Irish Open is spread across our communities. Local traders have to be supported to maximise the potential we have over the coming days and I’ll continue to work with them to secure that.”
