Local person buying £500 of Apple products ends up with ‘two bottles of water and a newspaper’
Police in Newry are reminding the community to only purchase valuable items from reputable sources.
The reminder follows an incident where a member of the public was approached by a male in the Armagh Road area on Tuesday, 14th April, and offered an iphone, ipad and laptop for £500.
After discussion the sale was agreed for 350 Euros and the seller placed the items into a rucksack type bag. The money was handed over and the rucksack handed to the buyer.
The seller sped off from the area and the buyer found two bottles of water and newspaper in the bag he received.
Constable Caroline Bell said, “If something sounds too good to be true it generally is. You are not protected if you buy from an unreputable source and we all work too hard for our money to just hand it over to someone else.
She added, “If you are approached in this manner, please take details of the seller and any vehicles and report it immediately to us on 101.”
