Warning of ‘deadly consequences’ after Camlough Road stone throwing attacks
Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey has said that there is grave concerns about the ongoing stoning of vehicles travelling along the Camlough Road by youths using Carnagat Hill as a launch pad.
He was speaking after the most recent incident where the windscreen of a lorry was smashed after being attacked by a group of stone throwers.
“These incidents are now a regular occurrence,” he told Newry Times. “I share the anger and frustration of the local community that the area is being used as a launch pad to attack motorists and their vehicles.
“This is not high jinks or fun, ultimately a driver, passenger or pedestrian will be killed or seriously injured.”
Mickey Brady echoed his colleagues sentiments. “This latest attack on a vehicle is a cause of major concern.
“Those engaged in this type of anti social activities are not only causing distress and anger within the local community but also endangering people and property.
“I appeal to those involved to take stock of their actions and the potential deadly consequences and stop immediately.”
