Three arrests after South Down police recover stolen property
Police in South Down have arrested three people and recovered stolen property.
During the early hours of Tuesday, 3rd February, police received a report of the occupants of a silver Vauxhall Zafira acting suspiciously in a yard on Oldtown Road, Annalong.
They attended and a description of the vehicle was circulated to all police patrols. A cctv camera in the yard was damaged.
Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Heatley explained, “The car was located on Newcastle Road, Kilkeel at 2.34am on 3 February. A 28 year old man, 26 year old female and 36 year old female were arrested for criminal damage and theft.
“A number of items were recovered from the vehicle which was seized by police. Two trees in the car were found to have been stolen from properties in Ballymartin and were subsequently returned to their owners.
“A Supersere gas heater and gas cylinder were also recovered from the vehicle however ownership of these items has not been established. The three people arrested were later released on bail pending further enquiries.
“We would like to hear from anyone who has information in relation to this incident or anyone who has information in relation to the ownership of the heater and cylinder.
“We believe these may have been stolen from the Kilkeel/Newcastle area between 11pm on Monday, 2 February and 2.30am on Tuesday, 3 February. We can be contacted in Kilkeel on 101,” Constable Heatley added.
