Taylor meets Ulster Bank officials over local closures
Ulster Unionist Representative, Councillor David Taylor has met with senior Ulster Bank officials to discuss the impact of their recent announcement to close its branch in Newtownhamilton.
Councillor Taylor highlighted the very profound and serious impact the closure would have on the local community.
He stated that particular concerns had been raised in terms of the impact the closure would have on older members of the local community and indeed shop retailers and those with small rural and agricultural businesses.
Taylor confirmed Ulster Bank officials had provided an assurance that they would endeavour to speak to customers within Newtownhamilton Branch ahead of the closure. They also encouraged anyone with concerns in respect of the closure to speak directly to local bank officials.
Ulster Bank has outlined the majority of its services will be available to their customers at the local post office in Newtownhamilton.
They are also exploring the possibility of providing a weekly mobile service to customers in Newtownhamilton. This service has proved to be successful in other areas across Northern Ireland which have been subject to Ulster Bank Branch closures.
Councillor Taylor said he was very disappointed that Ulster Bank will not be reviewing its position in terms of the Branch closure, though he hoped that the measures put in place to provide services within the local Post Office would serve as some comfort to customers in Newtownhamilton.
