Health Minister Jim Wells visits Headway Newry
Health Minister Jim Wells has visited Headway Newry to see firsthand the excellent work carried out by the organisation.
Headway Newry is a local registered charity supporting people living with a brain injury, their carers and families, within the Southern Health and Social Care Trust.
Minister Wells said, “I was very pleased to have been invited to Headway Newry to see the excellent work carried out in supporting people living with a brain injury, their carers, and families.”
Headway Newry provides a safe and stimulating environment for brain injury survivors. It also offers respite to carers and provides peace of mind to brain injury survivor’s loved ones who are reassured that they are participating in social and recreational activities with appropriate supervision.
The Minister continued, “I am aware of the devastating effect and impact that a brain injury can have on those who suffer a brain injury and their families. It can bring with it countless symptoms and challenges including memory loss, mobility problems, personality changes and behavioural issues.
“Services provided by organisations such as Headway Newry are of vital importance in helping people to come to terms with their brain injury, and in providing the support they need to live fuller lives.”
Headway Newry’s aim is to improve the quality of life for people living with brain injury, their families and carers. Isolation is a major factor for people living with brain injury and this is ameliorated through the various activities held at the centre and through their outreach centres.
Minister Wells also paid tribute to the staff and volunteers who ensure that Headway Newry’s service is making a real difference to those who need such support.
