Decrease in prices of bins

Newry and Mourne Councillor Pat Mc Ginn has welcomed the announcement by Council Technical & Leisure Services Department that the price of bins will be reduced from £38 plus Vat to £30 plus Vat. The Sinn Fein Councillor, who had requested that Council reviewed their charges for all wheeled bins, said that he had no doubt the reduction would be welcomed by householders in the district.

McGinn said, “It is a significant reduction which will have a meaningful financial impact for those purchasing bins. Unfortunately, due to concerns about costs, it has not been possible to agree to the replacement of bins at no charge for householders in the ‘vulnerable category ‘ and for replacement of lost bins and vandalised bins, except where they have been damaged by Council.”

Newry and Mourne Council currently collects  39000 Black,  39000  Blue and 16300 Brown Bins, a total of 95,000 and no provision has been made in Rates Estimates to provide for free replacement.
