McKevitt welcomes dereliction funding boost
South Down MLA Karen McKevitt has welcomed the decision by the Minister for Environment Mark H Durkan to provide £605, 000 to address decay and dereliction at a number of sites across the north.
McKevitt, who is also the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Environment said, “I am delighted by the Minister’s announcement today. It is important that we take action to enhance the appearance of our towns and coastal routes in order to attract tourists and reinforce community pride in our local areas.
“I am particularly pleased that £80, 000 has been allocated to Newry, Rostrevor, Warrenpoint, Crossmaglen and Kilkeel and £102,000 awarded to North Down for building facelifts and removal of eyesores.
“I would like to commend Newry and Mourne District Council on their successful bid for funding. This money will undoubtedly be put to good use and provide a great boost to the area.
McKevitt added, “We must continue to invest in our towns and our environment, and I thank the Minister for investing in Newry and Mourne.”
