Silverbridge resurfacing works welcomed

Newry/Armagh Assembly Member Megan Fearon has said that resurfacing works on the B30 Silverbridge Road will enhance safety for all road users.

The local MLA commented following confirmation from the Department of Regional Development that works will begin on Monday 4th November and last until the beginning of December.

Speaking to Newry Times, Fearon explained, “This is very welcome news for the people of South Armagh as this is one of the most heavily used roads in the area.

“The whole scheme will see some £210,000 injected into local infrastructure which will improve the quality of the road surface and aid drainage in the area. A scheme of this scale will lead to some disruption as the road will be closed on weekdays from 8.45am until 3.00pm and on Saturdays from 8.00am- 2.00pm.

She added, “Hopefully by using off peak road closures local people will not be inconvenienced too much.”

Sinn Fein Councillor for the area, Colman Burns added, “This is very welcome news for the people who travel daily on the B30 road. I would ask people to be patient and to allow extra time for any diversions they might have to take. This work will not start until the Carrive Road, closed to facilitate works on the new bridge at Cully Road, is reopened.

“This resurfacing work and the new bridge at Cully Road are two major works which are very welcome for the Silverbridge area. Thankfully, this has now come to fruition and both schemes should be completed by early December.”
