To be selected at this level is a great achievement for anyone. However, at this point Kane, a member of the St John Bosco A.B.C in Newry is in high demand as he has also been selected for both the Ulster, and Irish squads where his younger brother Jake trains too.

The amount of time and effort Kane has dedicated to the sport is really paying off and his coaches believe he is a young man with a bright future in the sport.

A spokesman for the Bosco club stated, “We will continue to develop Kane in the club as well as his training with the Ulster squad on Saturdays and the Irish squad on Sundays.

“Training with the likes of Irish High Performance coach Zaur Antia and his team of international coaches, and local legend and international boxer Adrian Patterson along with the rest of the coaches at the club the sky’s the limit.

“We know the People of Newry and Mourne will get behind this young man and the St John Bosco Boxing club in blazing a trail in the world of boxing which will see Newry as an epicentre of future boxing stars.

“With the success of St John Bosco’s boxers and our plans to develop a Centre of boxing excellence we are sure of future success,” he continued.

“The club has kindly been donated a very large portacabin from a local builder. We would be very greatful if any haulage company could help our wee club out in any way they can in the transporting of this from one end of Newry to the Bosco youth centre on the Armagh Road.

The spokesman added, “Also, the club would like to wish Ryan McKeown good-luck in his comeback fight in the Antrim intermediates next week in Belfast. Ryan is a great prospect for the club and we are sure Ryan will be the next senior boxer the town has produced.

“Ryan is a tremendous asset to the club with the younger boxers watching and learning from the way he trains.”
