£250,000 improvements to Hilltown to Newry road
South Down SDLP representatives say they are delighted by the news that Roads Service have committed to undertake a major road improvement scheme on the main Hilltown to Newry Road.
MLA for the area Karen McKevitt said, “For many years now we have lobbied tirelessly for road improvements on the B8 particularly around what’s commonly known as The Seven Sisters.
“The news that Roads Service are to spend £250,000 improving this busy stretch will be a benefit to everyone, particularly local people who use this route daily.”
Councillor Sean O’Hare echoed his colleague’s sentiments, adding, “Roads Service has come up trumps by allocating funds to these necessary road improvements which will focus on the area between Edentrumly Road and Leode Road taking in the most dangerous bends.
“The work is scheduled to begin around Christmas which will make a great gift to the local people and can’t come soon enough.”
