‘Narrow Water Bridge can be realised within current timeframe’ – Ruane
Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has said that she is still very optimistic that the Narrow Water Bridge will be completed within the current time-frame.
Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane stated, “The confirmation that the Special European Union Programme Body have signed over the €17.4m funding that will make up the bulk of the money is to be welcomed.
“I also spoke to an Taoiseach Enda Kenny in recent days who acknowledged that this project is still a priority for his government so I believe that the political will on both sides of the border to see the project completed is also steadfast.
“The key stakeholders, including Newry and Mourne and Louth County Council, will be meeting in the near future to explore all finance options to make up the shortfall and see the construction of the bridge.
Ruane added, “There is also universal acknowledgement that this bridge would transform the South Down and North Louth region so it is imperative that we deliver it for the people of the region.”
