Clarke calls for refurbishment repairs to Castle Park Toilets
Alliance Councillor Patrick Clarke is calling on Down District Council to carry out minor refurbishment works to Castle Park Toilets situated near the outdoor bowling green in Newcastle.
Clarke stated, “Over the last number of weeks I have had a number of complaints about the poor condition of Castle Park toilets particularly the gents. Both gents toilets cubicles do not have locks on the doors plus the toilets are leaking. The walls are also in a poor condition and the sinks have rusting handles.
“One parent complained to me that the Castle Park toilets are a disgrace to bring a child into compared to other public toilets in Newcastle,” Clarke blasted.
“Whilst I understand that the block style building at Castle Park which houses both the gents, ladies and disabled is quite old I still believe that resources from Building and Estates should be spent to carry out minor refurbishment works.
“In the long term any proposed redevelopment of Castle Park will necessitate the replacing of the old block style Castle Park public toilets.
Clarke added, “However in the short term I have asked Building and Estates to replace the toilets, repair the gents cubicle doors as well as either tiling or painting the walls and also replacing the sinks.”
