‘Parades Commission Newry decision sensible’ – Brady
Newry and Armagh MLA Mickey Brady has described as ‘sensible’ the decision by the Parades Commission not to allow the Loyal Sons of Benagh to parade through Newry City Centre on Friday 19th April.
“This parade, while traditionally passing off peacefully, has spelled widespread disruption for residents and businesses alike’, Brady said.
“While I welcome the fact that the parade will not progress down to the city centre I recognise that for those living and working along the route there will not be a reduction in their inconvenience.
“I have offered to meet with representatives of the band however they have once again failed in their obligation to meet the community affected by their parade.
Brady added, “Dialogue and two way communication is the only way forward for this type of parade and it is only fair residents’ views are taken into consideration regarding any event which will mean disruption.
“Myself, councillor Valerie Harte and Aidan Mathers met with the PSNI regarding this parade and I will be monitoring it closely on Friday.”
