NIIRTA welcomes Chancellor’s Budget
The Northern Ireland Independent Retail Trade Association (NIIRTA) has welcomed the ‘pro-small business emphasis’ of the Chancellor’s Budget today.
NIIRTA also described the Budget as being positive for growth in the Retail Sector in Northern Ireland.
NIIRTA Chief Executive Glyn Roberts said, “On balance this is a positive Budget for local small businesses, independent retailers and for Northern Ireland’s economy as a whole.
“NIIRTA has long argued for small traders to be supported in employing more staff and so we welcome the £2000 Employment Allowance as a step in the right direction of tackling Northern Ireland’s growing unemployment problem.
Roberts continued, “In Northern Ireland 7000 more local people qualifying for £10k exemption from Income Tax and 618,000 paying less Income Tax will boost disposable income and spend in local shops.
“The 1% cut in Corporation Tax and the cancellation of September’s Fuel Duty increase will be welcomed by the local business community. We would urge the Executive to use the additional £94m for capital projects to invest in improved road networks for our rural towns and for Town and City Centre regeneration friendly initiatives.
He added, “Overall this Budget is better than expected, we hope that it will provide a real boost for sustainable growth in our local economy given today’s depressing unemployment figures.”
