Curran demands Old Warrenpoint Road speed limit decrease
Sinn Féin Councillor Brendan Curran has called a meeting with Roads Service and the PSNI to demand the lowering of the speed limit on the Old Warrenpoint Road.
Speaking to Newry Times, Curran said, “I have called a meeting with Roads Service and the PSNI to insist that the speed limit be lowered on the Old Warrenpoint road.
“This meeting must take place before traffic calming measures can be installed in this location.
“I have been inundated with calls from concerned residents over the past few months and my main priority is for pedestrians who have to cross this very dangerous road.
“Young children crossing the road from new developments nearby are at real risk of serious injury.
He added, “The current speed limit at 40mph needs to be further lowered to 30mph, to ensure that vehicles have a better chance of stopping.”
