Curran calls for ‘unsightly weeds’ to be removed
Newry Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Curran has called on the council to take immediate action and remove the unsightly weeds which are growing close to the entrance of the subways in Newry.
Speaking to Newry Times about the issue Curran said Newry and Mourne council needs to address the poor state of the entrance to the subway, particularly the one at Abbey Yard.
“Not only is this an eye sore but it is becoming a dumping ground for rubbish and empty beer bottles and cans. I am sure that the residents who live close by are distracted by the fact that this was allowed to get to the state that it is in.
“My fear also is the fact that this overgrown mess will become a nesting ground for vermin which will then cause serious problems for the residents.
He added, “I call on residents to complain more to the council to ensure that areas close to their homes are properly maintained and are not allowed to get into a state whereby weeds are growing year in and year out without any action being taken.”
