Newry students shine at BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition
The winners of the 49th annual BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition 2013 have been announced. Students from local schools St Louis Grammar and St Colman’s College who last week showcased their projects at the prestigious event, have been formally recognised at the awards.
St Louis Grammar School students Ciara Keenan and Aoife Sloan were successful at the awards ceremony picking up a Highly Commended Award for their project ‘Hands-on’ which was entered into the Technology category, Junior section.
Teacher Sean Donnelly from St Louis Grammar School also won the Analog Devices Educator of Excellence Award. Mr Donnelly was presented with the Analog Devices Trophy plus an all-expenses paid trip to America.
In addition, Newry student Fergal McNally from St Colman’s College was Highly Commended for his project ‘The scattering behaviour of sheep’ which was entered into the Social and Behavioural Sciences category, Junior section.
Colm O’Neill, CEO, BT Ireland said, “The exhibition is incredible this year – more ideas submitted, more partners coming on board, excellent exhibits and certainly more visitors coming through the doors. It is becoming a real movement and gaining such momentum in its 49th year.
“We’re delighted with the winning projects and would like to congratulate the winners on their achievements this week. We know, from experience, that this award will change their lives.”
