Christmas Stamp Scheme welcomed by Brady

Newry and Armagh Sinn Féin MLA Mickey Brady has welcomed an initiative by Royal Mail which hopes to assist customers who are in receipt of Pension Credit, ESA or Incapacity Benefits by providing a number of stamps at last year’s prices.

The scheme runs from 6th November until the 24th December and it allows these customers to purchase a total of 36 first and second class stamps at last year’s price – 46pence for first class and 36pence for second class.

This scheme allows for the stamps to be purchased in any mixture of first or second class stamps but can only be purchased in a single transaction. Anyone wishing to avail of the scheme will have to show proof of receipt of these benefits at the point of purchase.

Every household will receive a leaflet from the Post Office and this will also have to be shown when purchasing the stamps.

Speaking about the scheme Mickey Brady said:

“I welcome this scheme by the Post Office which recognises the times of financial hardship that people are feeling on a daily basis.

“I am sure that customers will appreciate this small but thoughtful initiative and take up the offer especially in the run up to Christmas when many of our people especially the younger generation have had to up sticks and move around the world in search of employment.

He added, “I would remind people to read the leaflet carefully and ensure that they take the appropriate documents to the Post Office when purchasing these stamps.”
