Newry City Ladies, Meet the Players: Amy Kelly

Recently Newry Times caught up with Newry Ladies Midfielder, Amy Kelly to find out a little more about her:

Name: Amy Kelly.

Age: 25.

Position: Centre Midfield.

Previous clubs: Newry Ladies has been the only team for me.

Best player you have played against? Would have to say our own girls in training, they are too good!

Greatest achievement so far in your career? Being part of our squad and achieving the Double last year was a great experience.

Best ground you have played in? Solitude.

Who is your sporting hero? Ryan Giggs/Paul Scholes.

If you were to throw a party which celebrities or sports people would you ask around? Alex Ferguson, Coldplay and Tommy Tiernan!

What club would you like to play for in the future? I’m 25 so I don’t think I will be moving anywhere!

What is the one thing that you enjoy while playing football? I love the craic with the girls, on and off the pitch!

What inspires you to play football? The enjoyment I get from playing all the time.

What is your least favourite training drill? I don’t really have a least favourite, they are all awful! Only joking they are all good!

Who has been the biggest influence in your career so far? My dad was the one who got me into football so it’s his fault I love it!

What brought you to play for Newry? I had always wanted to play soccer and when I found out about the team I came straight down!

Who is the biggest joker in the team? Aoife Lennon and Nicola Clements, although it took us a week to hear the punch line of a joke once… Pat Noodle!

Which team mate has the biggest bag of toiletries? Would have to say Aoife Lennon again!

Who is the best trainer at the club? Lisa McCann, she never misses training.

Who is the best/worst dresser in the team? To be honest, we all look the same every week!

Who has the worst taste in music in the team? Myself and Connie Burns love a bit of 90’s cheese on the way to matches (apologies to Lisa McCann and Marianne Marron who have to listen to it!)

And finally…What’s your favourite thing about playing for Newry? Definitely the craic we have and the people I have met, they are all great.
